Engineered & Solid Floor Repairs
Repairs for engineered and solid wood floors in Barnet: plank replacement, lifted boards and water damage.
Plank floor repairs done properly
Modern plank floors are tough, but a dropped pan, a leaking dishwasher or a heavy sofa dragged across the room can still leave serious damage. Rather than replacing the whole floor, we cut out and replace the damaged planks, re-bond any that have lifted and blend the repair into the surrounding finish. It is quicker and far cheaper than a replacement floor.
Typical repairs
Cutting out and replacing damaged, dented or burnt planks
Fixing boards that have come away from the subfloor
Repairing water-damaged, cupped or swollen sections
Tightening open joints and boards that have moved
Engineered or solid - why it matters
An engineered floor has a top layer of real wood on a stable core; a solid floor is one piece of timber. Knowing which you have tells us how to repair it and how much sanding the floor can take. Our article on sanding engineered floors shows you how to check.
Blending the repair
New planks are rarely the exact colour of a floor that has been in sunlight for years. Where needed, a full sand and refinish brings the whole floor to one consistent colour. Lightly worn oiled floors can often be refreshed with a maintenance re-oil instead.
After a leak
Leaking appliances, overflowing baths and wet boots by the door all take their toll. Damp boards swell and cup, and water stains often go right through the wear layer. We check the moisture levels, let the floor dry properly and then decide whether the boards can be flattened by sanding or need replacing. Patience at this stage avoids repeat problems later.
Floating, glued and nailed floors
Each fitting method needs its own repair technique. We adapt our approach to the way your floor was fitted, so replacement boards sit flush and stay put. If you have spare boards from the original fit, keep them - they are often the best match for a repair.

Questions about engineered & solid floor repairs
Can you repair a water-damaged floor?
Often, yes. Light marks often sand away, while badly swollen or stained boards are replaced and blended in. The floor must be fully dry first, so we may check moisture levels before starting.
How are your prices worked out?
The cost depends on the size of the floor, its condition and the finish. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
How many times can a solid wood floor be sanded?
A solid wood floor can be sanded many times over its life. Each sand removes only a very thin layer when done properly, which is why period floors are still going strong after a century.
Do you need to visit to give a price?
For many jobs, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price within a working day. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
Can you sand an engineered wood floor?
Usually, if the wear layer is at least 3 mm thick. We check the thickness during the free survey, often by lifting a threshold strip or a floor vent. Our engineered floor guide explains more.
Can damaged boards be replaced invisibly?
We match the species, width and age of your boards wherever possible. Once the floor is sanded and finished, repairs are very hard to spot. Learn more about wood floor repairs.
What our customers say
Quick, clean and professional
“We had the hallway and living room sanded and lacquered over two days. They protected the skirting and doors, and they hoovered up before leaving each evening.”
High Barnet
No more draughts
“Our front room was always cold because of the gaps in the boards. They filled them with pine slivers blend in perfectly and we have felt the difference already. They were upfront that filled gaps can move with the seasons, which I appreciated.”
New Barnet
Lacquered floor looking fresh
“Our lacquered oak had lots of fine scratches from the dog. A light abrade and new coat of lacquer has made it smooth and shiny again. Useful advice on felt pads and mats as well.”
