Wood floor repairs done properly

Most wooden floors that look tired or broken can be saved. With the right timber, careful joinery and a well-matched finish, we repair the damaged areas and keep everything that is still sound. We work on period homes, modern apartments and busy public buildings across Barnet and the surrounding areas.

Many repairs are carried out just before a full restoration. Once the floor is sound, floor sanding takes everything back to fresh timber so new and old wood finish as one surface. Where a full sand is not needed, a re-oil can blend a small repair into the surrounding finish.

Our floor repair services

We tailor the repair to the construction of your floor:

Repairs you can barely see

Good repairs should be invisible once the floor is finished. We source reclaimed boards and blocks of the same species, width and age wherever possible, and match the grain direction and colour before anything is fixed down. If new wood has to be used, we tone it in with stains and oils so the repair blends with the rest of the room.

Typical repair jobs

  • Squeaky or bouncy boards caused by loose fixings or worn joists

  • Hollow, lifting or missing parquet blocks

  • Water damage, staining and cupped boards

  • Botched past repairs and visible patches

  • Burns, deep gouges and pet damage

Fixing the root of the problem

There is little point replacing a board if whatever damaged it is still there. Lifting blocks often point to damp or failed adhesive, cupped boards to a leak or poor ventilation, and creaks to loose fixings or tired joists. We take moisture readings, inspect underneath where we can and talk you through the options. Where another trade is needed first, we say so, so your new repair is not wasted.

What happens after the repair

Once the floor is sound, you can decide how far to take it. Many customers go on to change the colour with wood floor staining, or close draughty gaps between boards with gap filling. Please note that gap filling is excluded from our service guarantee, because wooden floors move with the seasons and the structure of the building. Our restoration work itself is covered by a three-month service guarantee.

FAQ

Common questions

Will the new boards match the old ones?

Usually, yes. We keep a stock of reclaimed timber and source matching boards and blocks, then blend the colour during finishing.

Do I need to sand the whole floor after a repair?

Not always. Small repairs can sometimes be blended locally, but a full sand gives the most even result, especially on older floors.

Can you fix squeaky floors?

Yes. We locate the loose boards and re-fix them to the joists, often without lifting them.

How long do repairs take?

Small repairs are typically finished in a day; larger areas take longer, and we confirm timings with your quote.

FAQ

Questions about Wood Floor Repairs

All questions
How are your prices worked out?

The cost depends on the size of the floor, its condition and the finish. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.

Do you need to visit to give a price?

For many jobs, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price within a working day. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.

Is floor sanding messy?

Very little. Our dust-free sanding systems capture around 99% of dust at source, so there is almost nothing to clean afterwards. We also sheet off doorways and protect adjoining rooms before we start.

What do I need to do before you arrive?

Empty the room where possible and take down curtains that reach the floor. If you need help with heavy pieces, let us know when booking. Our guide to preparing your home has more tips.

Is the floor restoration guaranteed?

Every floor restoration is covered by our 3-month service guarantee. If something is not right with our workmanship during those three months, we come back and put it right. Gap filling is excluded, because wooden floors move with the seasons — see our service guarantee for the full terms.

Is the quote really fixed?

Yes — every job starts with a free survey and a fixed written quote. The price on the quote is the price you pay, unless you ask us to add extra work. You can book a survey online in a couple of minutes.

“We had the hallway and living room sanded and lacquered over two days. They protected the skirting and doors, and they hoovered up before leaving each evening.”

No more draughts

“Our front room was always cold because of the gaps in the boards. They filled them with pine slivers blend in perfectly and we have felt the difference already. They were upfront that filled gaps can move with the seasons, which I appreciated.”
